RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF
THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF EUGENE SEAWRIGHT, A NATIVE OF
SWANSEA, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

W
hereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply
saddened to learn of the passing of Swansea native Eugene Seawright on November
20, 2025, at the venerable age of nearly seventy-three; and

W
hereas, born December 9, 1952, Eugene Seawright came into this world
the son of Joe Nathan Seawright and Mary Butler Seawright of Swansea; and

W
hereas, at an early age, this man of faith found his spiritual home
at Swansea's Prodigal AME Church. He joined this fellowship of believers and
served the Lord there as a committed member; and

W
hereas, Eugene attended the Lexington County public schools and
graduated from Swansea High School with the Class of 1970. During his high
school years, he played basketball and participated in other activities. In
pursuit of further education, the young Eugene attended Midlands Technical
College, where he received an associate degree in automotive paint and body
repair. He also pursued a degree in business administration at Rutledge
College; and

W
hereas, in God's good time, Eugene met and married the lovely
Margaret Seawright, God blessing the pair with four children, Cohran, Marcia,
Marcus, and Antjuan; and

W
hereas, moreover, Eugene Seawright served in the United States Army,
after which he took up new duties at Fort Jackson. He retired from his civil
service career at Ft. Jackson after thirty-three years. During retirement, he
became the owner of We Kleen Cleaning Service; and

W
hereas, known for his big smile, Eugene enjoyed spending time with
family and friends and working around the house; and

W
hereas, preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kaiyah T'selani Tyanna
Horton-Seawright, he leaves to cherish his memory his dear wife, Margaret
Seawright; his children, Cohran Tiwan Seawright, Marcia Monique Seawright,
Marcus Eugene Seawright, and Antjuan Orlando Seawright; his grandchildren,
Nicholas Harrell, Lauryn Pearl Seawright, and Milana Seawright; his brother,
Harry Lee (Sherita) Seawright; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Shivers; and a
host of other family members and friends. Eugene's legacy will live on in the
hearts of all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

B
e it resolved by the
Senate
:

T
hat the members of the South Carolina
Senate
,
by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Eugene
Seawright, a native of Swansea, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family
