RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE James F. Byrnes high SCHOOL
GIRLS Softball TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND
TO HONOR THEM FOR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA Division I GIRLS
Softball STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

W
hereas, the South
Carolina Senate is proud to recognize the James F. Byrnes High School girls softball
team for winning the South Carolina Class 5A Division I girls softball state
championship on May 31, 2025; and

W
hereas, this historic
win marks the program's sixth state championship in school history and
thirteenth appearance in the state championship series; and

W
hereas, in the
championship game, the Rebels defeated Summerville High School Green Wave by a
score of 5-4, ending the defending state champion's eighty-three game winning
streak; and

W
hereas, the Rebels
produced one of the most memorable comebacks in program history, rallying for a
9-8 victory in game two at home after falling 3-0 in the first game of the
series. Kaylee Hannon and Maddie Wiant delivered pivotal three-run home runs, Addy
Waters added another solo home run, and Garrison Aiken forced in the decisive
run with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh; and

W
hereas, in a dramatic
nine-inning final game, Byrnes trailed 2-0 through the seventh, before Haven
Holmes and Memorie Melton drove in a run each to tie the game. Byrnes later
secured the title in the ninth, with a 5-4 walk-off win. Ellanie Yarrell lifted
a crucial sacrifice fly. Addy Waters put the championship ball in play,
allowing the tying and winning runs to score; and

W
hereas, with an
exceptional season overall, the team finished with a 30-4 overall record, a
12-0 record in region play, and was ranked twenty-second in the nation; and

W
hereas, the James F.
Byrnes High School girls softball team has flourished under the leadership and
guidance of Coach Brandi Aiken; and

W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the James
F. Byrnes High School girls softball team has brought to its school and
community and look forward to a future filled with further accomplishments by
the team and its talented athletes. Now, therefore,

hat the members of the
South Carolina
Senate
, by this resolution,
congratulate the James F. Byrnes High School girls softball team, coaches, and
school officials on an outstanding season and honor them for winning the South
Carolina Class 5A Division I girls softball state championship.

e it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to the James F. Byrnes High School
girls softball team, Coach Brandi Aiken, and Principal Erin Greenway.
