TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Rita Crump-Saddler and 50
Friends for their work to combat cancer.

W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Rita Crump-Saddler and 50
Friends for advocating for policy change that would treat and prevent cancer;
and

W
hereas, the American
Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network empower
local grassroots volunteers to engage in education, advocacy, research, and
services and to make their voices heard and influence evidence-based public
policy change to combat cancer; and

W
hereas, Ms.
Crump-Saddler, a four-year breast cancer survivor from Silverstreet in Newberry
County, has been working beside her family and friends for over forty years to
raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer; and

W
hereas, a civic
leader, Ms. Crump-Saddler leads 50 Friends, a volunteer organization comprised
of over fifty churches that was organized over fifty years ago to raise
awareness and funds for cancer prevention and early detection. The organization
advocates for public policy changes that will reduce the cancer burden on our State;
and

W
hereas, as South
Carolina continues to navigate through tough legislation, it is more important
than ever to support efforts to combat cancer. Not only will effective policies
to prevent, detect, and treat cancer save countless lives, but they will
significantly reduce the financial strain that this disease places on South
Carolinians; and

W
hereas, the American
Cancer Society Cancer Action Network would like to recognize Ms. Crump-Saddler
for her great contributions in the fight against cancer and for standing strong
in the face of the ever-changing landscape of the fight against cancer; and

W
hereas, the members of
the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that
Rita Crump-Saddler has shown in serving the people and the State of South
Carolina. Now, therefore,

, by this resolution,
recognize and honor Rita Crump-Saddler and 50 Friends for their work to combat
cancer.
