A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION recognizing Scouting America Day at the Capitol
and celebrating Scouting America for one hundred sixteen years of service to
American youth.
WHEREAS, Scouting America, formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America, was founded
in 1910 and chartered by Congress with a mission to prepare young people for lives of impact
and purpose through character development, citizenship, and leadership; and
WHEREAS, Scouting America invites every youth to a safe and fun environment to learn,
explore, and grow; and
WHEREAS, for one hundred sixteen years, Scouting America has impacted the lives of
more than one hundred thirty million young men and women by fostering personal growth,
responsibility, and service to others; and
WHEREAS, Scouting America remains dedicated to empowering boys, girls, and families
of South Dakota, and helping them achieve their full potential and become responsible,
engaged citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the One Hundred First Legislature of the
State of South Dakota, that Scouting America is celebrated for its one hundred sixteen years
of existence, and its contributions to South Dakota and the United States.
