An Act to require that the Department of Health annually report on public health 1
effects of cannabis use. 2
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA: 3
Section 1. That a NEW SECTION be added to chapter 34-20G: 4
On or before March first of each year, the department shall provide a report to the 5
legislature. The report must include, for the preceding calendar year: 6
(1) The expenses incurred and revenues generated from the medical cannabis 7
program; 8
(2) The impact of medical cannabis on public safety, public health, and on behavioral 9
health services; and 10
(3) The number of: 11
(a) Applications received by the department for registry identification cards; 12
(b) Cannabis-related poisonings; 13
(c) Drug-related deaths in which a toxicology screen detected metabolites; 14
(d) Hospitalizations in this state related to cannabis use; 15
(e) Licensing violations determined by the department; 16
(f) Medical cannabis establishments by type; 17
(g) Registered qualifying patients by medical condition; 18
(h) Practitioners, by specialty, who have provided written certifications; 19
(i) Qualifying patients and designated caregivers; 20
(j) Qualifying patient demographics by age and sex; and 21
(k) Registry identification cards revoked. 22
