A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION celebrating the South Dakota Youth of the Year
program for 2026.
WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Clubs in South Dakota serve more than eighteen thousand children
and teens annually at sixty locations across this state; and
WHEREAS, the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs is to enable all young people, especially those
with the greatest need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Club programs promote a better self-image, improved education,
and greater social, emotional, and cultural awareness, while encouraging community
involvement, strong moral values, and enhanced life management skills; and
WHEREAS, the Youth of the Year program is the Boys & Girls Clubs' premier recognition
platform, designed to promote and recognize service to club and community, academic
performance, and contributions to family; and
WHEREAS, youth nominees from South Dakota Clubs in Sioux Falls, Wagner, Mission,
Flandreau, and Pierre have earned the esteemed title of Youth of the Year; and
WHEREAS, on March 4, 2026, one of the youth nominees will be chosen as South Dakota
State Youth of the Year and will represent this state in the National Youth of the Year program
for Boys & Girls Clubs of America;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the One Hundred First Legislature of the
State of South Dakota, that this state recognizes Boys & Girls Clubs for their outstanding
commitment to children, teens, and families, and commends the Youth of the Year finalists of
2026 for their accomplishments and successes.
