Plain English Breakdown

The official source material does not provide details on how the change will affect health care facilities or what happens when machines are used for other purposes.

Health Care Facility Licensing Changes

This bill changes Tennessee's health facility regulations to exclude certain MRI and PET machines from needing a license if they are not used for diagnostic purposes.

What This Bill Does

  • Removes the requirement for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) machines that are not used for diagnosing illnesses to get a license from the health facilities commission.

Who It Names or Affects

  • Health care facilities that use MRI or PET machines.
  • The Health Facilities Commission in Tennessee.

Terms To Know

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
A medical test using a machine to take pictures inside the body without using X-rays.
Positron emission tomography (PET)
A type of scan that uses a special camera and a small amount of radioactive material to create detailed images of organs and tissues in the body.

Limits and Unknowns

  • The bill does not specify what happens if MRI or PET machines are used for purposes other than diagnosis.
  • It is unclear how this change will affect health care facilities that rely on these imaging devices.

Amendments

These notes stay tied to the official amendment files and metadata from the legislature.
