ON MARCH 16, 2026, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 2172, AS AMENDED.

AMENDMENT #1 r
ewrites this bill to designate all of the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River in Scott County as a Class II scenic river.

This amendment generally prohibits the permitting of a new landfill for
the disposal of solid or hazardous wastes within the entirety of the territory of a county in which two rivers join to form a Class II river that flows through a national river and recreation area and, upon crossing the border of that county, enters the t
erritory of a neighboring state
. Such prohibition does not prohibit permit renewal for, or expansion of, a landfill that is operating under a valid permit on the date that this bill b
ecomes a law.

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 11,
Chapter 13 and Title 68, Chapter 211, relative to
environmental protection.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 11-13-108(a), is amended by
deleting "two (2) years" and substituting "twenty-seven (27) months".
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
