AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 4,
Chapter 1, Part 3, relative to bands.

WHEREAS, from Bristol, the birthplace of country music, to Memphis, the blues capital
of the world, musicians across Tennessee continue to inspire and influence through their
astounding artistry; and
WHEREAS, from time to time, the exceptional ability, dedication, and accomplishments,
both musical and philanthropic, of standout Tennessee musicians warrant a place of honor in
the annals of State history; and
WHEREAS, based in the Crossville area, Southern Stars Symphonic Brass is a
collective of musicians from Clarksville, Nashville, Murfreesboro, Tullahoma, Cookeville,
Crossville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville and includes university professors, secondary-level
music educators, and others who are excellent musicians in their own right; and
WHEREAS, in addition to a three-concert season at Stone Memorial High School's
auditorium, this talented group has given concerts at the Performing Arts Center in Maryville,
Maryville College, the University of the Cumberlands, and various locations in Knoxville,
Cookeville, and Murfreesboro; and
WHEREAS, Southern Stars Symphonic Brass has performed at the Great American
Brass Band Festival on multiple occasions, representing Tennessee at this prestigious, long-
running event that draws musical ensembles from around the country and across the globe; and
WHEREAS, for nearly two decades, Southern Stars Symphonic Brass has served as an
exemplar of musical talent and generosity of spirit, and it is most worthy of special recognition;
now, therefore,

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 4, Chapter 1, Part 3, is amended by
adding the following as a new section:
The Southern Stars Symphonic Brass is hereby designated as the official brass
band of the state of Tennessee.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
