AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 15,
Chapter 2, relative to days of special observance.

WHEREAS, Tennessee observes Mothers' Day on the second Sunday in May; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee does not yet set aside a day to observe as Fathers' Day; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee's fathers are the leaders of our families and the protectors of our
security and safety; and
WHEREAS, the love and devotion of Tennessee's fathers inspire and mold the next
generation of families; and
WHEREAS, fathers rise early, work late, make sacrifices, and remain steadfast in their
love and commitment to their families and thereby help shape the character and future of our
state through their example; and
WHEREAS, fathers instill strength, integrity, and perseverance in their children, lead
through action, speak with purpose, and impart wisdom honed by experience; and
WHEREAS, fathers leave a lasting influence on their children that reaches far beyond
the walls of their homes; and
WHEREAS, the presence of a father in the home also serves to plant the seeds of virtue
and instill American values in their children, including values like hard work, love of country, and
the importance of living with conviction; and
WHEREAS, through their leadership, selflessness, and inspiration, fathers are integral to
the nuclear family; and
WHEREAS, throughout the United States, Fathers' Day is celebrated on the third
Sunday in June; and

WHEREAS, Tennessee wishes to celebrate the role of the father in the family on the
same day; now, therefore,
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 15, Chapter 2, is amended by adding
the following as a new section:
The third Sunday in June of each year is observed as "Fathers' Day," to honor
the noble and indispensable role that fathers play in Tennessee families.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
