A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to placement on the minimum salary schedule and service

credit in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas for certain public

school career or technology education teachers.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

SECTION 1. Section 21.403(b), Education Code, is amended to

read as follows:

(b) For each year of work experience required for

certification in a career or technological field, up to a maximum of

five
[
two
] years, a certified career or technology education

teacher is entitled to salary step credit as if the work experience

were teaching experience.

SECTION 2. Section 823.404(a), Government Code, is amended

to read as follows:

(a) An eligible member may establish equivalent membership

service credit for
up to a maximum of five
[
one or two
] years of work

experience for which the member is entitled to salary step credit

under Section 21.403(b), Education Code.

SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026

school year.

SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives

a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as

provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this

Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this

Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
