A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the governing board of certain junior college

districts.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

SECTION 1. Section 130.0824, Education Code, is amended to

read as follows:

SPECIAL PROVISIONS REGARDING
GOVERNING

BOARD
OF CERTAIN JUNIOR

] COLLEGE
DISTRICTS

]. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this

subchapter, the governing board of the Texarkana College District

may by resolution or order of the board decrease the number of board

members from nine to seven, with four members elected from

respective commissioner precincts and three members elected at

large.

] A resolution or order of the governing board under

this
subsection

] must establish transition terms of office

to conform to elections held in even-numbered years and staggered

six-year terms, with the initial board terms of three members

expiring in 2014, of two members expiring in 2016, and of two

members expiring in 2018.

(b)

Notwithstanding any other provision of this subchapter,

the term of office of a member of the governing board of South Texas

College is two years.

The members of the board in office on

September 1, 2025, and all subsequent members of the board, shall

remain in office until the expiration of the terms for which the

members were elected or appointed, and until any successors have

been elected and qualified.

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
