A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to maintenance of records of independent investigations of

deaths in custody in accordance with state record retention

requirements

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

SECTION 1. Amend Government Code Sec. 511.021 by adding new

subsection (d) as follows:

(d)

Independent investigation materials shall be retained

as vital records in compliance with Govt. Code 441.180(13)(c).

SECTION 2. Effective Sept. 1, 2025 with respect to all

records in the custody of state or local agencies on that date.
