A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to county purchasing agents in certain counties.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 262, Local Government

Code, is amended by adding Section 262.0117 to read as follows:

262.0117.

ADDITIONAL COUNTY PURCHASING AGENT

AUTHORITY IN COUNTIES WITH POPULATION OF MORE THAN 250,000.

(a)

This section applies only to a county with a population of more than

250,000.

(b)

Notwithstanding any other provision of this subchapter,

the commissioners court of a county by order may:

(1)

abolish the office of a purchasing agent appointed

under Section 262.011; and

(2)

employ a person to act as county purchasing agent

under Section 262.0115.

(c)

The term of any purchasing agent whose office is

abolished under Subsection (b)(1) expires on the date provided in

the order.

A purchasing agent whose term expires under this

subsection is eligible to be employed as a county purchasing agent

under Subsection (b)(2).

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives

a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as

provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this

Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this

Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
