H.C.R. No. 152

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Punkin Center Gin in Lamesa celebrated its 100th

anniversary in 2024, and this occasion offers a welcome opportunity

to recognize the history and accomplishments of this venerable

local enterprise; and

WHEREAS, Established on June 11, 1924, Punkin Center Gin is

considered to be the oldest gin in West Texas and the second oldest

in the state that is still in operation; and

WHEREAS, In 1999, Punkin Center Gin was purchased by Al

Crisp, who has an extensive background as a cotton ginner; it is a

family-owned and operated business, with the office and financial

records being managed by his wife, Kasha; in recent years, the gin

has been updated with numerous automations to become more

efficient, playing a role in the company's success; and

WHEREAS, For more than a century, Punkin Center Gin has

contributed to the economic prosperity of Dawson County, and it is

fitting that the anniversary of its founding be recognized; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas

hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Punkin Center Gin and

extend to Al and Kasha Crisp and their employees sincere best wishes

for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Punkin Center Gin as an expression of high regard by

the Texas Legislature.
