H.C.R. No. 157
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The city of Rockport boasts an abundance of natural
beauty, including pristine coastal waters that are home to a rich
diversity of marine life; and
WHEREAS, The redfish, also known as the red drum, is a prized
species that thrives in the waters surrounding Rockport, attracting
anglers from across the state and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Renowned for its size and its willingness to take
most kinds of bait, the redfish is a rewarding quarry that can be
pursued through a variety of means, including surf and pier
fishing, wade angling, and saltwater fly fishing; and
WHEREAS, Rockport's unique coastal environment provides
ideal conditions for redfish, contributing to the city's reputation
as one of Texas' premier locations for fishing enthusiasts; and
WHEREAS, The area's flourishing redfish population has not
only bolstered local tourism and recreation but has contributed
significantly to conservation and sustainability efforts in the
region; and
WHEREAS, The city of Rockport and its residents have
demonstrated a strong commitment to preserving and promoting the
natural resources that help make the area a fishing haven, ensuring
that future generations can continue to enjoy this treasured
activity; and
WHEREAS, Rockport's enduring popularity as a fishing
destination is a testament to the city's rich heritage, vibrant
community, and enduring connection to the coastal waters that
define its character; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby designate Rockport as the official Redfish Capital of Texas;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of
Section 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in
effect until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is
finally passed by the legislature.
