CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Fulton has long been recognized for its thriving

oyster industry, which has provided a range of benefits to the town

and to the wider Gulf Coast region; and

WHEREAS, The waters surrounding Fulton provide ideal

conditions for oyster growth, supporting a robust oyster farming

and harvesting community that contributes to the local economy and

the culinary heritage of the Lone Star State; and

WHEREAS, To pay tribute to the important role that oysters

play in the area, the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department has hosted

the Fulton Oysterfest each year since 1979; the event draws

thousands of visitors with a variety of attractions, including

food, live music, and carnival rides and games; the festival raises

funds for local services while also enhancing the town's reputation

as a premier seafood destination; and

WHEREAS, Businesses and residents in Fulton have

demonstrated an outstanding commitment to practicing sustainable

aquaculture and to promoting and preserving oyster reefs; these

efforts have positioned the town as a leader in coastal stewardship

and oyster farming innovation; and

WHEREAS, The citizens of Fulton take great pride in their

town's association with oysters, and this sought-after delicacy has

played a significant role in the community's economic, cultural,

and environmental vitality; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas

hereby designate Fulton as the official Oyster Capital of Texas;

and, be it further

RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of

Section 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in

effect until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is

finally passed by the legislature.
