H.R. No. 100

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Citizens and business leaders from Montgomery

County are convening in Austin on March 4, 2025, to celebrate

Montgomery County Day at the State Capitol; and

WHEREAS, Located at the southern edge of East Texas's Piney

Woods, Montgomery County was founded by the Congress of the

Republic of Texas in 1837. The historic city of Montgomery is known

as the birthplace of the Texas flag, designed by Montgomery

resident Dr. Charles B. Stewart and adopted by the Texas Congress

in 1839. This flag has represented the state since it joined the

Union in 1845; and

WHEREAS, The arrival of railroads in the 1870s and 1880s

spurred a lumber boom that revitalized Montgomery County's

agricultural economy post-Civil War. Houston lumberman Isaac

Conroe established a sawmill in 1881, and the town of Conroe, which

developed around the mill, became the county seat eight years

later. The discovery of oil in 1931 led to another economic surge,

and today, oil production, the lumber industry, and ranching

contribute to the area's prosperity; and

WHEREAS, East Montgomery County has seen significant

residential and commercial growth, with residents enjoying

proximity to Houston's cultural amenities and The Woodlands, as

well as access to Lake Houston Wilderness Park and three regional

lakes; and

WHEREAS, This visit to the State Capitol is organized by the

Conroe/Lake Conroe, Woodlands Area, Greater Magnolia Parkway,

Greater East Montgomery County, Montgomery Area, and Montgomery

County Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. Members of these associations

work to enhance economic development and quality of life throughout

Montgomery County, one of the fastest-growing counties in the

nation; and

WHEREAS, The residents of this dynamic county take great

pride in their rich history as they strive to build an even brighter

future. It is fitting to honor them and their unique contributions

to the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby recognize March 4, 2025, as Montgomery County

Day at the State Capitol and extend sincere best wishes to the

visiting delegation for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin.
