H.R. No. 1020

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Curra's Grill in Austin is marking the 30th

anniversary of its establishment in 2025, and this occasion

provides a welcome opportunity to recognize the restaurant and its

founders, the Garcia family; and

WHEREAS, One of the first interior Mexican restaurants in the

city, Curra's was founded in March 1995 by brothers Jorge and Marco

Garcia, who had recently arrived in Austin from their hometown of

Nueva Rosita, Mexico; they were soon joined in the business by their

sister, Julie, and their parents, Marco and Julieta; the family

subsequently opened additional locations on Burnet Road and Parmer

Lane, and they currently operate two restaurants, the original

location on Oltorf Street and a second in Hyde Park; and

WHEREAS, In addition to celebrating the diverse culinary

heritage of Mexico, Curra's has further contributed to the

community by embracing sustainability, supporting local

initiatives, and providing meals during shutdowns caused by weather

and by the COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, During the past three decades, Curra's has gained a

loyal following, and members of the Garcia family may take pride in

the vital role they continue to play in the life of the Austin

community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Curra's

Grill and extend to the Garcia family and their staff sincere best

wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for the restaurant as an expression of high regard by the

Texas House of Representatives.
