H.R. No. 1101
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Taylor Nunez of Randolph High School in Universal
City won four gold medals at the 2025 University Interscholastic
League Track & Field State Meet to close out her spectacular career
as the most decorated athlete in Texas high school track history;
and
WHEREAS, On May 1, Ms. Nunez joined the other top 3A
competitors at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin; starting her day in
thrilling fashion, she claimed her fourth straight gold medal in
the long jump, breaking her own record with a leap of 20 feet, 9.5
inches; she continued to excel in the running events, eclipsing her
previous 3A mark with a winning time of 11.22 seconds in the 100
meters and clocking in at 22.76 seconds in the 200-meter race to
capture the 15th gold medal of her career; with that effort, she
established the gold-medal standard for all male and female track
athletes in the state; and
WHEREAS, In the final event of the night, Ms. Nunez further
contributed to Randolph High's superb showing by anchoring the
4x400-meter relay squad; teaming with Jaela Smith, Sophia Bendet,
and Grace Kistler, she took the baton for the last time at the state
meet, bringing home the quartet's victory with a blistering time of
3 minutes, 47.72 seconds, for a 3A record and her 16th gold medal;
remarkably, Ms. Nunez completed a perfect 16-for-16 run of gold
medals in UIL state competition, and the Ro-Hawks earned their
fourth consecutive team title with their overall performance; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Nunez has signed a letter of intent to compete
in track at Texas A&M University; this accomplished young athlete
is continuing a family tradition with her success in the sport; her
mother, Tameka Nunez, was a seven-time All-American while competing
for The University of Texas at San Antonio under her maiden name,
Tameka Roberts; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating exceptional talent, dedication, and
perseverance, Taylor Nunez has cemented her place in the pantheon
of exceptional track athletes in the Lone Star State, and she is
poised for further success as she looks ahead to her collegiate
athletic career; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Taylor Nunez on winning four gold
medals at the 2025 UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to her
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Nunez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
