H.R. No. 1124

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Many proud members of the General Federation of

Women's Clubs of Texas are gathering at the State Capitol on May 13,

2025; and

WHEREAS, GFWC Texas is an affiliate of the international

General Federation of Women's Clubs; dedicated to improving lives

and enhancing communities through volunteer service, the

federation was founded in 1890 by Jane Cunningham Croly; she

recognized the value of supporting women's clubs across the country

in order to advance their efforts in behalf of education, better

working conditions, health care, and other reforms; and

WHEREAS, The federation's initial conference was held in

New York City; members of 61 women's clubs voted to form a larger

organization in order to make a greater impact, and GFWC received

its charter from the United States Congress in 1901; and

WHEREAS, Federated in 1890, GFWC Texas held its inaugural

annual convention in Tyler from April 27 to 29, 1899; it was

incorporated 15 years later; today, the state organization is

divided into districts to facilitate the exchange of information;

each club makes annual reports to the districts to keep state

officers apprised of their activities, programs, and

accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, The members of GFWC Texas have demonstrated a strong

commitment to improving the quality of life in their communities,

and their willingness to give of their time and talents sets an

outstanding example of civic engagement; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby recognize May 13, 2025, as General Federation of

Women's Clubs of Texas Day at the State Capitol and extend to all

those in attendance sincere best wishes for a memorable and

enjoyable visit to Austin; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the

Texas House of Representatives.
