H.R. No. 1176

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Athena Ella Corey of Americas High School in the

Socorro Independent School District has distinguished herself in

her responsibilities as a legislative intern in the office of State

Representative Mary E. González; and

WHEREAS, Over the course of her internship, Ms. Corey has

provided vital assistance in handling a wide variety of challenging

tasks; in addition to gaining valuable experience in the field of

public service, she has learned more about the legislative process

and the issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State; and

WHEREAS, A senior at Americas High School, Ms. Corey is an

active member of the Libertas Academy, National Honor Society,

orchestra, and Blazerettes dance team; she has also participated in

robotics and competed in such sports as swimming, volleyball, and

track; among her many achievements, she has twice been named to the

Texas Dance Educators' Association All-State Dance Team, and she

has received Triple A Awards; and

WHEREAS, Committed to civic engagement, Ms. Corey has

volunteered with the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank and the El

Paso Villa Maria women's shelter, where she has supported efforts

to uplift vulnerable populations in her community; and

WHEREAS, Athena Ella Corey has performed her duties as a

legislative intern with skill and dedication, and she is indeed

deserving of special recognition for her fine work; now, therefore,

be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby commend Athena Ella Corey for her service as a

legislative intern in the office of State Representative

Mary E. González and extend to her sincere best wishes for

continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Ms. Corey as an expression of high regard by the Texas

House of Representatives.
