H.R. No. 1242

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close

with the passing of Preston Paul Solarie on April 26, 2025, at the

age of 70; and

WHEREAS, The son of Paul and Hilda Solarie, "Cocamo" Solarie

was born in Port Arthur on August 30, 1954; he grew up with two

sisters, Deborah and Bertha, in a devout Catholic household; after

graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School, he earned his

bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering magna cum laude in just

three years from Prairie View A&M University; he tutored other

students along the way; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Solarie pursued a successful career in

engineering; over the years, he was employed by a number of major

corporations, including Boeing, Chevron, and Gulf Oil; he retired

from the operations division of ConocoPhillips in 2016; an avid

investor as well, he kept a keen eye on the stock market; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Solarie shared a

fulfilling 25-year marriage with the love of his life, the former

Janice Spillman, and he was the proud father of three children, Ian,

LaSjhontae, and Yuri; he was sustained by a strong faith and

demonstrated great compassion during many years as a mentor and

sponsor in the Narcotics Anonymous program; in 2022, he joined the

West Side Church of Christ in Angleton; he and his wife always

attended services together, and they enjoyed traveling, attending

functions, and socializing with friends and loved ones; and

WHEREAS, Preston Solarie enriched the lives of innumerable

people through his wisdom, warmth, understanding, and kindness, and

he will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Preston Paul

Solarie and extend sincere condolences to the members of his

family: to his wife, Janice Spillman Solarie; to his children, Ian

Solarie and his wife, Kristina, LaSjhontae Spillman, and Yuri

Spillman; to his grandchildren, I'Nari Solarie, Pierre Barthe,

Ethan Solarie, Zian Solarie, and Kain Solarie; to his sisters,

Deborah Celestine and Bertha Antwine; and to a host of other

relatives and friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Preston

Paul Solarie.
