H.R. No. 1245

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Gail "Big Boy" Hester, a pillar of the Round Rock

community, is retiring as the owner of Hester's Auto and Body after

more than six decades; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Round Rock, Mr. Hester opened the

body shop in 1960 when he was 22 years old; since 1987, he has hosted

the yearly Big Boy Hester Fundraising Fishing Trip, and that event

along with his annual Christmas party have raised more than

$400,000 for the Round Rock Chamber, the YMCA, and a number of local

charities; through the years, he has held many memorable parties at

his shop featuring such famous attendees as fiddle player Johnny

Gimble and baseball stars Nolan Ryan and Jackie Moore; and

WHEREAS, Known as the unofficial mayor of Round Rock,

Mr. Hester was honored by the Round Rock Chamber with a Lifetime

Achievement award in 2009, and every year, a small business in the

city is recognized as the Big Boy Hester Small Business of the Year;

Mr. Hester and his family were named Local Legends by the city in

2002; and

WHEREAS, An avid baseball fan, Mr. Hester played on Round

Rock's first Little League team when he was 12 years old; decades

later, he helped his fellow business leaders land the Round Rock

Express Triple-A team; in 2024, the city renamed the "Bluff"

baseball field in Memorial Park to Big Boy Hester Family Field in

his honor; and

WHEREAS, Big Boy Hester's dedication, professionalism, and

generosity have greatly benefited his fellow citizens, and he may

indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on

the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature congratulate Gail "Big Boy" Hester on his retirement

and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it

further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Mr. Hester as an expression of high regard by the Texas

House of Representatives.
