H.R. No. 1253

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, For more than three decades, the Magnolia Historical

Society has worked to preserve, share, and celebrate the history of

the community; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1993 by Celeste Graves and Patsy

Ogden-Williams, the Magnolia Historical Society manages the

Magnolia Depot Museum Complex; the site is home to the town's

original railroad depot, which was built in 1902 with folk

Victorian architecture as a station on the International and Great

Northern Railroad; in 1999, the depot was designated a Recorded

Texas Historic Landmark; and

WHEREAS, Other artifacts on display at the museum include a

19th-century sawmill and a Southern Pacific caboose painted in

historically accurate colors; in addition, a wood-frame house that

served as the office and barber shop of Dr. J. M. Ware is located

there; and

WHEREAS, By maintaining the museum complex and its artifacts,

the Magnolia Historical Society has helped to ensure the

preservation of the town's heritage and to deepen the appreciation

of its history by its residents, and it is fitting to acknowledge

the dedicated work of the organization's members; now, therefore,

be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby honor the Magnolia Historical Society for its

efforts to preserve and promote local history and extend to its

members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas

House of Representatives.
