H.R. No. 1308
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief of Police Dr. Coby Pewitt retired
from the Richardson Police Department on March 31, 2025, drawing to
a close an exemplary tenure in law enforcement that has spanned more
than 28 years; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Richardson, Coby Pewitt first
became involved in the Richardson PD during his youth, when he
served as a member of Explorer Post No. 761; in 1996, he was hired
by the department, and he rose through the ranks to become
detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain; he went on to serve
as assistant chief of the Operations and Administration Bureaus
before taking on his final role as assistant chief of the Services
Bureau; among his many achievements, he was named Rookie of the Year
in 1998 and Detective of the Year in 2002; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Pewitt holds a bachelor's degree in business
administration from the University of North Texas, an MBA from The
University of Texas at Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management,
and a doctorate in public affairs from the UTD School of Economic,
Political, and Policy Sciences; he has further distinguished
himself as an adjunct faculty member for the Institute for Law
Enforcement Administration, Tarleton State University's Master of
Public Administration program, and The University of Texas at
Tyler, and he coauthored an article on succession planning for
municipal agencies; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Pewitt is a graduate of the FBI National
Academy, the ILEA School of Police Supervision, the Law Enforcement
Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College, the ILEA
School of Executive Leadership, and Leadership Richardson; active
in his community, he serves as immediate past president of the
Leadership Richardson Alumni Association Board of Directors and as
president of the Advisory Council for the Boys and Girls Club of
Richardson; he is also a dedicated volunteer for The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society; and
WHEREAS, Through his leadership, professionalism, and
commitment to protecting and serving his community, Dr. Coby Pewitt
has greatly benefited the citizens of Richardson, and he may indeed
reflect with pride on his achievements as he embarks on the next
exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Assistant Chief of Police Dr. Coby
Pewitt on his retirement from the Richardson Police Department and
extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Pewitt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
