H.R. No. 1309
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Marco Cunningham of Rapoport Academy in Waco won two
gold medals at the 2025 University Interscholastic League Track &
Field State Meet to close out his notable high school career; and
WHEREAS, On May 2, Mr. Cunningham joined the other top 2A
competitors at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin; he dominated the
3,200-meter field, clocking in at 9:14.94 to triumph by the
impressive margin of nearly 44 seconds while recording the
second-fastest time ever in the race at the 2A meet; he also
collected a gold medal in the 1,600 meters, posting a blistering
time of 4 minutes, 19.71 seconds; and
WHEREAS, In November 2024, Mr. Cunningham set the stage for
his success at the state track meet when he clinched the gold medal
in the 2A final at the UIL Cross Country State Championships; in
addition to his success in athletics, he has distinguished himself
academically as one of the top students in his class; and
WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for
high school track and field athletes, Marco Cunningham has ably
represented his school and community, and he will cherish his
memories of this outstanding accomplishment for years to come; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Marco Cunningham on winning two
gold medals at the 2025 UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to
him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Cunningham as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
