H.R. No. 1317
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Rapoport Academy Public
School in Waco closed out an unforgettable season by winning the
2025 University Interscholastic League 2A Division 1 state
championship; and
WHEREAS, Rapoport began its journey to the title by clinching
the district crown; in the playoffs, the Ravens bested Poolville,
Cisco, Harts Bluff, and Seymour High Schools to reach the
semifinals; there, a 58-51 win over Ropes High School allowed
Rapoport to punch its ticket to the state championship game; and
WHEREAS, On March 6, the Ravens took the floor against Hearne
High School at the Alamodome in San Antonio in what proved to be a
thrilling battle for the state crown; Rapoport held a double-digit
lead midway through the final quarter, but Hearne rallied to close
the gap to just two points with less than a minute on the clock;
demonstrating exceptional composure and determination, the Ravens
sealed the outcome with clutch shooting from the free-throw line to
emerge triumphant by a final score of 53-49; capping their
storybook season as champions, the Rapoport players secured the
first state title in program history and ended with an overall
record of 37 wins and only 3 losses; and
WHEREAS, Championship Game Most Valuable Player Jordan
Bradley paced Rapoport with 17 points, and he was joined by Ve'Shawn
Long on the All-Tournament Team; the Ravens also received vital
contributions throughout the season from the other members of the
roster: Jordan Sewell, Keng Taylor, Montre Mitchell, Rudy Luna,
Dominic Sanchez, David Tran, Jayden Johnson, Mark Navarro, and
Jackson Small; these talented student-athletes were ably guided by
head coach Turmaine Rice, who was named the 2A Division 1 Coach of
the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches; additional
support was provided by assistant coach Jerry Dancer, athletics
director Bryan Foreman, principal Dr. Tyler Ellis, and
superintendent Dr. Alexis Neumann; and
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
commitment to excellence, and the Rapoport Academy Ravens are a
source of great pride to their school and their many community
supporters; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Rapoport Academy Public School
boys' basketball team on winning the 2025 UIL 2A Division 1 state
championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
