H.R. No. 1328

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Edward Sills retired as communications director for

the Texas AFL-CIO on February 7, 2025, following a distinguished

tenure that spanned more than three decades; and

WHEREAS, Hired in 1993, Ed Sills dedicated over 31 years to

raising awareness of issues vital to working Texans; his daily

email updates and public-facing communications helped shape not

only the internal culture of the organization, but also its outward

identity; with a style informed by journalism and rooted in

authenticity, history, and clarity, he established a uniquely

trusted and influential voice with communities across Texas; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sills was instrumental in the expansion and

operation of the Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Program, which has

granted over $650,000 to Texas students since 2006; in addition, he

played a key role in public policy work, and he collaborated closely

with labor leaders and elected officials; he also helped organize

disaster relief efforts across the state; and

WHEREAS, Before joining the Texas AFL-CIO, Mr. Sills was

employed in journalism for 12 years, most notably as Austin bureau

chief for
The San Antonio Light
and as an occasional columnist for

The Quorum Report
; he holds a bachelor's degree in English and a law

degree from Cornell University; and

WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sills enjoys the love and

support of his wife, Enedelia Obregón, and he is the proud father of

two children, Alejandro and Graciela; in retirement, he looks

forward to spending more time with his family, traveling, and

pursuing such hobbies as birding, playing trivia, and collecting

puzzles; and

WHEREAS, A tireless champion of working families, Ed Sills

contributed significantly to the advancement of the labor movement

through his skill, professionalism, and unyielding commitment to

the important mission of the Texas AFL-CIO, and he has earned the

lasting respect and admiration of innumerable people; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby congratulate Edward Sills on his retirement as

communications director for the Texas AFL-CIO and extend to him

sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Mr. Sills as an expression of high regard by the Texas

House of Representatives.
