H.R. No. 1335

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The 20th annual Operation: Hats Off for Veterans BBQ

Gala is taking place in Kyle on April 6, 2025; and

WHEREAS, For two decades, Operation: Hats Off for Veterans

has raised funds for worthy causes; Lisa Adams, who was previously

employed at Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos, organized

the first event, Hats Off for Hospice, in 2005 to fulfill the

end-of-life wishes of local hospice patients; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Adams continued her efforts after leaving her

job at the hospital, and the event became the Hats Off for Veterans

BBQ Gala, with continued support from Kent Black of Black's BBQ,

Larry Kruzie of Texas Old Town, and Texas Oncology-San Marcos; and

WHEREAS, Today, the organization focuses on higher

education, workforce development, and mental health for veterans;

its Higher Education Scholarship Fund benefits veterans enrolled in

two- and four-year programs who are working toward their first

undergraduate degrees; another scholarship, the MSG Jimmie

Quintero Endowment, is supported by an annual contribution from

retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant Jimmie Quintero and his wife,

Shin, to assist a veteran entering college as a freshman; and

WHEREAS, Recognizing a need among veterans suffering from

PTSD, Hats Off established its Courage to Connect initiative; this

program serves as a navigation tool, and veterans across the state

and beyond can join its monthly Zoom meeting to share their stories

and support each other in healing; and

WHEREAS, Operation: Hats Off for Veterans has made a positive

difference in countless lives over the course of two decades, and it

is indeed a pleasure to join in celebrating this milestone; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th annual Operation: Hats Off

for Veterans BBQ Gala and extend to all those involved with the

event sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the

Texas House of Representatives.
