H.R. No. 1353

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Phillip Saenz Cruz Jr. has greatly benefited the

residents of House District 42 through more than three decades of

service to State Representative Richard Peña Raymond; and

WHEREAS, A native of Bryan, Mr. Cruz is a longtime friend of

the Raymond family and earned the nicknamed "Stick" for his tall,

slender physique; during Representative Raymond's first campaign,

Mr. Cruz offered vital support by knocking on doors, delivering and

installing campaign signs, collecting signatures, driving buses of

volunteers, and delivering refreshments to events; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cruz has continued to pitch in enthusiastically

during every subsequent campaign season; moreover, he helps out in

the Capitol office throughout the year and often lends a hand in the

district office or wherever else he is needed; he also drives

Representative Raymond in the annual Washington's Birthday

Celebration Parade in Laredo; and

WHEREAS, A talented second baseman in his youth, Mr. Cruz is

an avid sports fan and shares with the representative a deep

admiration for the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, Texas A&M

Aggies, and Texas Longhorns; by profession, he is the owner of an

Austin-area business, Pine Top Trucking; in all his endeavors, he

enjoys the love and encouragement of his wife, Lucky Urias, who he

met at a fundraising event; and

WHEREAS, Through his dedication and his willingness to take

on a wide variety of responsibilities, Phillip Cruz has provided

valuable assistance to Representative Raymond and his staff, and he

is indeed deserving of special recognition for his efforts; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby honor Phillip Saenz Cruz Jr. for his many years

of work in the office of State Representative Richard Peña Raymond

and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it

further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Mr. Cruz as an expression of high regard by the Texas

House of Representatives.
