H.R. No. 1361
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dallas resident Scottie Scheffler has written his
name in golf's history book with a dominant run in 2024 and 2025,
capturing the 2024 Masters Tournament championship, a gold medal at
the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, and the 2025 PGA
Championship; and
WHEREAS, The 2022 Masters champion, Mr. Scheffler claimed
his second green jacket with a spectacular performance at Augusta
National Golf Club in Georgia in April 2024; after carding scores of
66 and 72 on Thursday and Friday, he fell from first to sixth place
partway through the third round before rallying with an eagle and
key birdies to lead by one going into the final day of competition;
combining his strong iron game with clutch putting, he surged to a
three-shot advantage entering the back nine and demonstrated
tremendous poise down the stretch, finishing at 11-under-par 277 to
win by four shots; with the title, he became just the fifth player
to win two Masters before the age of 28; and
WHEREAS, Competing on the Olympic international stage at
Le Golf National in Paris, France, in August 2024, Mr. Scheffler
proudly represented his nation against a field of top golfers;
after trailing by four shots in the final round, he sank five
birdies on the back nine to tie the course record of 62 and bring
home just the third individual gold medal in Team USA men's history;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Scheffler also made history in 2024 by becoming
the first golfer to win the Players, Masters, and Tour
Championships in the same season; in addition to his Olympic
triumph, he collected a total of seven tour victories, the most
since 2007, and was the leader in top-10 finishes; and
WHEREAS, Carrying his momentum into 2025, Mr. Scheffler
matched the PGA Tour's 72-hole scoring record at the Byron Nelson
tournament in McKinney in early May, closing with a 63 in the final
round to finish at 31 under par; at the PGA championship two weeks
later, he added to his remarkable list of achievements with his
third victory in a major tournament; winning in impressive fashion
once again, he compiled an eagle and seven birdies on the back nines
of the third and fourth rounds to take home his first Wanamaker
Trophy; and
WHEREAS, Initially gaining acclaim in his youth,
Mr. Scheffler won three state golf titles at Highland Park High
School; he then excelled as a member of the golf team at The
University of Texas at Austin, receiving the Phil Mickelson Award
as the nation's top freshman and selection as a three-time
All-American; and
WHEREAS, Scottie Scheffler has distinguished himself as one
of the premier golfers on the PGA Tour, and he may indeed take
justifiable pride in his accomplishments as he looks forward to
further victories in the years ahead; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Scottie Scheffler on his success in
2024 and 2025 and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Scheffler as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
