H.R. No. 1423

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The observance of Irving Fire Department Advocacy

Day at the State Capitol on May 28, 2025, offers a welcome

opportunity to honor the department as it celebrates its 100th

anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1925 with just 20 volunteers, the

Irving Fire Department originally served an area spanning one

square mile, and its members put out fires with a four-wheel pull

cart carrying a 20-gallon water barrel, a hand pump, buckets,

brooms, and a small ladder; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Irving Fire Department includes more than

400 personnel who are committed to protecting over 250,000

residents across 68 square miles; the department operates out of 13

stations, and it utilizes a fleet of 13 engines, 5 trucks, and 11

ambulances; in addition, it has expanded its services to include

EMS capabilities as well as teams specializing in swift-water

rescue, hazardous materials, and technical rescue; among its many

achievements, the department received an Insurance Services Office

Class 1 rating, which indicates it is among the top one percent of

fire departments in the nation for capabilities and standards; and

WHEREAS, Over the past century, the dedicated members of the

Irving Fire Department have rendered exceptional service to their

fellow Texans, and they are indeed worthy of recognition on this

special occasion; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby recognize May 28, 2025, as Irving Fire

Department Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm

welcome to the visiting delegation.
