H.R. No. 1451

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Ronald

Edward Shifflett of Burton, who passed away on December 2, 2024, at

the age of 70; and

WHEREAS, Born in Rosenberg on July 18, 1954, Ron Shifflett

was the son of Harold Gene and Betty Shifflett, and he grew up with

the companionship of a brother, Michael; over the course of his

life, he lived in Stafford, Houston, Gordon, Victoria, Columbus,

and Burton; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Shifflett enjoyed a rewarding career in the oil

business, and he worked for a number of different companies,

earning the respect of his customers and colleagues alike; he was an

active member of the Austin Chalk Chapter of the American Petroleum

Institute, and he retired from Tryton Tools after a half century of

service in the industry; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Shifflett and his first wife, Diane, became the

proud parents of a son, Blake; after that marriage ended, he was

fortunate enough to find love again with Susan DeCell; with the

passing years, his cherished family grew to include his

granddaughter, Bryn, and he enjoyed cheering for her at her

softball games; and

WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Shifflett took pleasure in

hunting and fishing; he was a member of the Sons of Confederate

Veterans, Texas State and National Rifle Associations, and Mustang

Club of America; in his leisure time, he took pleasure in playing

golf, grilling, and rooting for the Gordon High School football

team and the Texas Longhorns; he was also an animal lover, and he

enjoyed listening to all genres of music, especially country and

polka; and

WHEREAS, Although Ron Shifflett is deeply missed, he has left

his loved ones with a wealth of memories that they will forever

treasure; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ronald Edward

Shifflett and extend sincere condolences to the members of his

family: to his wife, Susan DeCell Shifflett; to his son, Blake

Shifflett, and his wife, Lindsay; to his granddaughter, Bryn

Shifflett; to his mother-in-law, Marilyn DeCell; to his

sister-in-law, Denise Schaffer, and her husband, Jorgen; to his

nephew, Preston DeCell; to his cousin, Tony Green, and his wife,

Roni; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it

further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ron

Shifflett.
