H.R. No. 1468

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the

passing of Alan George Moravcik of Midland on August 20, 2024, at

the age of 77; and

WHEREAS, The son of John and Sylvia Moravcik, Alan Moravcik

was born in Hays, Kansas, on December 12, 1946, and he grew up in

Odessa with the companionship of a brother, Jack; after graduating

from Permian High School, he attended The University of Texas at

Austin on an athletic scholarship and played both football and

baseball for the Longhorns; he earned his juris doctor degree from

UT in 1972; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Moravcik practiced law in Austin for nine years

before joining a firm in Midland; he eventually founded his own

practice and later teamed with Mark Threadgill and Stuart Starry to

form the law firm Moravcik, Threadgill & Starry; over the course of

nearly four decades in family law, he often took pro bono cases, and

he frequently took opportunities to protect children in need; and

WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Moravcik married the love of his life,

Cathie Rae, and the couple shared 33 years together; he took great

pride in their children, Blake, Jake, and Maddie, and their

grandchildren, Taylor, Maci, and Alex; proud of his Czech heritage,

he was admired for his wonderful sense of humor, his love for

animals, and his strong faith; he especially enjoyed cooking for

his family and friends and coaching his sons and nephew in baseball;

and

WHEREAS, While the death of Alan Moravcik brings great

sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that

will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alan George Moravcik

and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his

wife, Cathie; to his children, Blake, Jake, and Maddie; to his

grandchildren, Taylor, Maci, and Alex; to his brother, Jack; to his

niece, Stacy; to his nephews, Stephen, Adam, Connor, and John; and

to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alan

Moravcik.
