H.R. No. 1480
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Matt Russell retired as principal of Allen High
School in May 2025, drawing to a close a notable career as a teacher
and administrator that spanned nearly three decades; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Russell joined the Allen Independent School
District in 1997 as a special education instructor; he went on to
teach resource mathematics before transitioning to serve in
administration as a campus coordinator; he subsequently served as
house principal and coprincipal of Allen High School and then as
principal of Ford Middle School; in 2020, he returned to Allen High
School as its full-time principal; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure, Mr. Russell has
placed a special emphasis on building a strong campus culture and
preparing students for life after graduation; under his leadership,
a record 43 students were named National Merit Semifinalists, and
in 2021, the "Eagle Give Day" service event was created to give back
to the community through a variety of campus volunteer initiatives;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Russell holds a bachelor's degree from Stephen
F. Austin State University and a master's degree in educational
leadership and administration from Lamar University; and
WHEREAS, Through his leadership and dedication, Matt Russell
has helped countless young Texans acquire the knowledge and skills
necessary to succeed, and his contributions will be remembered and
appreciated for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Matt Russell on his retirement as
principal of Allen High School and extend to him sincere best wishes
for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Russell as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
