H.R. No. 1492
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
memories of Antonio Gonzales of Austin, who passed away on April 6,
2025, at the age of 70; and
WHEREAS, The son of Rudolfo and Anita R. Gonzales, Tony
Gonzales was born on February 11, 1955, and he grew up in East
Austin with the companionship of 12 siblings, Victoria, Elida,
Dora, Rudy, Mary, Virgie, Robert, Judy, Amelia, Alesia, Herman, and
Melissa; he attended Brooke Elementary School, where his passion
for drawing, sketching, and creating art began, and he graduated
from Johnston High School in 1974; he went on to work for the State
of Texas and retired after 25 years of service; and
WHEREAS, A respected artist and muralist and a pillar of the
East Austin community, Mr. Gonzales celebrated his Mexican American
heritage through his work, and he shared his creative gifts with a
number of local businesses and organizations, such as Arte Texas
and Don Dario's Mexican restaurant; he also enjoyed creating
portraits of prominent figures in the Tejano music industry;
through the years, he received numerous awards in recognition of
his talent, and among the many highlights of his artistic career was
his participation in the restoration of the beloved mural
La
Lotería
on East Cesar Chavez Street; his work was also featured in
the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center's group
exhibit titled
La Lucha Sigue: Eastside Stories
; and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Gonzales benefited from
the love and support of his wife, Rachel, with whom he shared a
fulfilling relationship that spanned nearly five decades; he took
great pride in his daughters, Lori and Julie, and with the passing
years, he had the privilege of watching his family grow to include
four grandchildren, Serena, Andrew, Katelyn, and Nayeli, and two
great-grandchildren, Cristian and Anthony; and
WHEREAS, While the death of Tony Gonzales brings great
sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that
will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Antonio Gonzales and
extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tony
Gonzales.
