H.R. No. 1517
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Dixie Chicken of College Station has been named
a recipient of a Texas Treasure Business Award from the Texas
Historical Commission; and
WHEREAS, An initiative of the Texas Historical Commission's
Community Heritage Division, the Texas Treasure Business Award
program was created in 2005; the award recognizes businesses that
have provided jobs and enriched the local economy for 50 years or
more, and it pays tribute to the exceptional historical
contributions of these well-established enterprises; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1974 by Don Anz and Don Ganter, the Dixie
Chicken is located in the Northgate district of College Station
near the campus of Texas A&M University; the country-style bar has
served burgers and beers to countless students, former students,
families, local residents, and visitors over the years; since
Mr. Ganter's death in 2004, his daughters, Jennifer Ganter and Katy
Jackson, have operated the beloved establishment; and
WHEREAS, Local businesses of long standing play a vital role
in the culture and economy of the Lone Star State, and it is indeed a
pleasure to honor the Dixie Chicken for the high regard it has
enjoyed in the College Station community over the past half
century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Dixie Chicken in College
Station on receiving a Texas Treasure Business Award from the Texas
Historical Commission and extend to the owners and staff sincere
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Dixie Chicken as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
