H.R. No. 158

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Citizens of La Porte are gathering in Austin on

March 5, 2025, to celebrate La Porte Day at the State Capitol; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1892, La Porte thrived as a resort town

during the 1920s and 1930s, when Sylvan Beach Amusement Park drew

many of the nation's greatest big band performers, including Rudy

Vallee and Benny Goodman; in the years since, the petrochemical

industry, the Bayport Channel, and NASA's nearby Johnson Space

Center have benefited the economy, and today, the community boasts

award-winning schools and a business-friendly municipal

government; and

WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike enjoy the

opportunities for recreation in the region, such as the San Jacinto

Battleground State Historic Site, the San Jacinto Museum of

History, and the historic Sylvan Beach Park; and

WHEREAS, Celebrating their heritage as they work to build a

bright future, the people of La Porte may take great pride in the

role their community continues to play in the story of the Lone Star

State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby recognize March 5, 2025, as La Porte Day at the

State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best

wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin.
