H.R. No. 591

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Cliff Albright, a cofounder of Black Voters Matter

Fund, has worked tirelessly to protect voting rights; and

WHEREAS, Under Mr. Albright's able leadership, BVMF and its

Capacity Building Institute strive to foster community and increase

the organizational power of Black citizens; the group gained

national attention as it mobilized voters during the U.S. Senate

race in Alabama in 2017, and the following year, Mr. Albright and

his team traveled across seven Southern states to further engage

citizens; the organization has also been active in other

initiatives that encourage voter registration and turnout,

advocate for voting rights, and develop campaign infrastructure;

and

WHEREAS, Mr. Albright has authored articles for publications

such as
The New York Times
,
The Washington Post
, and
The Guardian
,

and he hosts a weekly radio show in Atlanta, Georgia; he has also

taught courses in African American studies at several universities;

a former resident of Selma, Alabama, he played an instrumental role

in securing financial resources for the state's Black Belt region;

he holds a bachelor's degree in applied economics and a master's

degree in Africana studies from Cornell University as well as a

master's degree in business administration from the University of

Alabama; and

WHEREAS, Cliff Albright has made a lasting, positive

difference through his vision, expertise, and dedication to

empowering local communities, and his accomplishments are widely

appreciated by his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby honor Cliff Albright for his efforts to promote

voter participation and civic engagement and extend to him sincere

best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Mr. Albright as an expression of high regard by the

Texas House of Representatives.
