H.R. No. 754
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas A&M Transportation Institute is marking
the 75th anniversary of its founding on June 5, 2025, providing a
fitting opportunity to recognize the organization's myriad
contributions; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1950 as the Texas Transportation
Institute, TTI was created to support the Texas Highway Department
through a partnership with the Agricultural and Mechanical College
of Texas; early research efforts focused on pavement materials,
concrete bridge structures, road base stabilization, and countless
other advances in critical infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, TTI's safety research has played an
instrumental role in the creation of vital roadway technologies
such as guardrails and cable median barriers designed to absorb
impact and safely redirect vehicles, and many of these designs were
later approved by the Federal Highway Administration; the group's
first
Urban Mobility Report
was published in 1987, providing
comprehensive analysis of traffic congestion trends and solutions
in urban areas, and it has since become a trusted resource for
decision-makers nationwide; in recent years, TTI has embraced
innovations in connected transportation technologies, big data
solutions, and strategies to enhance public safety and mobility;
and
WHEREAS, The organization was renamed the Texas A&M
Transportation Institute in 2012; today, it employs more than 700
professionals, students, and support staff; TTI also works to
educate the next generation of transportation professionals, and it
encompasses approximately $125 million in research expenditures,
more than 700 annual projects, and over 200 public and private
sponsors; and
WHEREAS, For three quarters of a century, the Texas A&M
Transportation Institute has been a leader in addressing the
complex transportation needs of the Lone Star State and the nation
at large, and the organization is indeed deserving of recognition
on this special milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Texas
A&M Transportation Institute and extend to all those affiliated
with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success in
their important work; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for TTI as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
of Representatives.
