H.R. No. 786

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Susana Imelda Alemán of

Austin were deeply saddened by her death on March 21, 2025, at the

age of 70; and

WHEREAS, The daughter of Élida Wilson Alemán and Manuel

Alemán, Susana Alemán was born in Edinburg on July 17, 1954, and she

grew up with the companionship of an older sister, Yolanda; when she

was eight years old, her family moved to Falfurrias, where she

graduated from Falfurrias High School as valedictorian in 1972; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Alemán attended The University of Texas at

Austin, earning her bachelor's degree magna cum laude in 1975, and

while working for the Austin Independent School District, she

attained her master's degree in curriculum and instruction; after

teaching civics at Falfurrias High School for four years, she went

on to earn her master's degree in school administration from Texas

A&I University and her juris doctor degree from the UT School of

Law; in 1984, Ms. Alemán became the assistant dean of student

affairs at the UT School of Law, a position she held for 22 years;

and

WHEREAS, Ms. Alemán was a passionate supporter of UT sports,

and her home decor reflected her Longhorn pride; a woman of faith,

she was a member of Saint Albert the Great Catholic Church, and in

2022, she was installed as a Dame in the Equestrian Order of the

Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem; caring and outgoing, she maintained

lifelong relationships with classmates, students, coworkers,

members of her church, and people from all walks of life; and

WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Susana Alemán

will remember the way she touched their lives with her kindness, her

generosity, and her positive outlook, and she will forever hold a

treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Susana Imelda

Alemán and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:

to her sister, Yolanda Wilson Alemán, and her husband, Christopher

Nickel Guinn; to her niece, Lisa Mónica González-Lyons, and her

husband, Tommey L. Lyons; to her grandnieces, Brianna Alicia White

and Isabella Victoria Zu-Bolton; and to her other relatives and

many friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Susana

Alemán.
