H.R. No. 791

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the

passing of Deubrella Burt Horton of Jack County on March 10, 2025,

at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, The daughter of Shell and Sarah Burt, the former

Deubrella Burt was born on October 15, 1934, in the Squaw Mountain

community of Jack County; she grew up with the companionship of

three siblings, Oleta, Marvin, and Bill, and graduated from school

in Antelope; and

WHEREAS, In 1955, she married George Horton, and the couple

settled in Jacksboro; they became the parents of three sons,

Harold, Dudley, and Greg, and with the passing years, their

treasured family grew to include four grandchildren, Ellissa,

Derek, Heath, and Mandi, and six great-grandchildren, Cy, Lyrik,

Channing, Brooks, Russell, and Kendall; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Horton enjoyed a rewarding career as an

administrative professional; for many years, she served as a

secretary at the Spiller Abstract Company and Spiller & Spiller law

firm, and in 2005, she retired as a secretary for the Jack County

judge; and

WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Mrs. Horton was a dedicated

congregant at First United Methodist Church in Jacksboro; she was a

wonderful cook and loved to share her recipes and dishes, and in her

leisure time, she took pleasure in gardening and growing flowers;

and

WHEREAS, Although she is deeply missed, Deubrella Horton has

left her family and friends with many cherished memories, and they

will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Deubrella Burt Horton

and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her

sons, Harold Horton and his wife, Tanya, Dudley Horton and his wife,

Carla Beth, and Greg Horton and his wife, Melissa; to her

grandchildren, Ellissa Horton Burr, Derek Horton and his wife,

Sara, Heath Horton, and Mandi Horton; to her great-grandchildren,

Cy Horton, Lyrik Horton, Channing Burr, Brooks Burr, Russell

Horton, and Kendall Horton; to her sister, Oleta Burt Thompson; to

her many nieces and nephews; and to her other relatives and friends;

and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Deubrella

Horton.
