H.R. No. 808

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Molly Katherine Mullens of

Park Cities on March 16, 2024, at the age of nine, brought an

unimaginable loss to her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, The cherished daughter of Michael and Marissa

Mullens, Molly Mullens was born on January 29, 2015, and she grew up

with the companionship of her older brothers, Sean and Connor; she

was further blessed with the affection of her grandparents, Mema

and Grandpa Pat; and

WHEREAS, Molly was a third grader at University Park

Elementary School in the Highland Park Independent School District;

an outgoing girl with an irrepressible personality, she loved

school, her classmates, and her teachers, and she demonstrated her

generosity and compassion by helping others feel connected and

included; among her favorite activities were spending time with

friends and playing with her dog, Ally, and she also enjoyed taking

acting classes, playing soccer, and the color pink; she uplifted

everyone around her with her warm smile and infectious laughter;

and

WHEREAS, On March 16, 2024, Molly lost her life in an

automobile accident on U.S. 287 near Vernon; her passing inspired

an outpouring of prayers, sympathy, and support from the community,

and her family successfully advocated for larger concrete barriers

on the highway in an effort to improve safety; proposed legislation

would designate a portion of U.S. 287 in Wilbarger County as the

Molly Mullens Memorial Highway; and

WHEREAS, Although her time on this earth was far too brief,

Molly Mullens was a ray of light in the lives of those who held her

dear, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and kindness that

will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Molly Katherine

Mullens and extend deepest condolences to all who mourn her

passing; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Molly

Mullens.
