H.R. No. 813

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians is

celebrating its 20th anniversary on September 23, 2025, with the

organization's annual fundraiser, HAAM Day; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 2005 by Robin Shivers, HAAM provides

access to affordable health care for low-income, uninsured and

underinsured working musicians, DJs, and music teachers in Travis

County and surrounding areas; these services include doctor visits,

prescriptions, routine dental work, psychiatric counseling, eye

exams, outpatient procedures, specialist referrals, and hearing

screenings; over the years, the organization has served nearly

7,000 people and connected musicians to more than $191 million in

health care services, and today, over 90 percent of its members have

obtained health insurance through HAAM Open Enrollment; and

WHEREAS, In 2023, HAAM opened a headquarters in South Central

Austin that encompasses hearing screening rooms, spaces to host

educational workshops and networking events, a stage for live

performances, and a musician resource center with computers,

printers, and high-speed Internet access; and

WHEREAS, Each year, the nonprofit holds HAAM Day, a

celebration that features performances at multiple venues in the

greater Austin area; the event raises hundreds of thousands of

dollars, and local restaurants, bars, and shops pledge a percentage

of sales to benefit the group; and

WHEREAS, For two decades, HAAM has provided affordable health

care assistance to the working artists that make Austin the "Live

Music Capital of the World," and this milestone represents a

fitting opportunity to recognize the organization's worthy

mission; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby honor the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians

on its 20th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the

group sincere best wishes for continued success with their

important work; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for HAAM as an expression of high regard by the Texas House

of Representatives.
