H.R. No. 814

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to

recognize the state's county treasurers and to join them in

celebrating April 8, 2025, as Texas County Treasurers Day at the

State Capitol; and

WHEREAS, Elected by voters for four-year terms, county

treasurers fulfill a range of duties as prescribed by the Texas

Local Government Code and County Commissioners Courts; and

WHEREAS, There are currently 244 county treasurers in Texas,

and two-thirds serve in rural counties with fewer than 25,000

residents; these dedicated public officials serve as chief

custodians of county finances and are tasked with receiving,

disbursing, and providing oversight of all county funds; and

WHEREAS, In addition to performing explicit statutory

duties, county treasurers serve as the chief liaison between their

county and depository banks, and many help to meet their county's

unique needs by providing versatile services; these may include

services in such areas as human resource administration, auditing,

and payroll management, and county treasurers are often entrusted

with providing treasurer duties for various county entities; and

WHEREAS, Texas County Treasurers Day serves as an opportunity

for these esteemed public servants to engage with legislators,

advocate on behalf of their communities, and assist in the

legislative process by offering expertise in the fiduciary aspects

of county governance; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby recognize April 8, 2025, as Texas County

Treasurers Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting

delegation sincere best wishes for a memorable visit to Austin.
