H.R. No. 817

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Association of Counties are

gathering on April 29, 2025, for County Government Day at the State

Capitol; and

WHEREAS, The National Association of Counties has designated

April 2025 as National County Government Month in an effort to

highlight the essential work of county government; formed in 1969,

the Texas Association of Counties represents all 254 of the state's

counties and has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to

improving and promoting the value of county government; and

WHEREAS, County government is one of the oldest forms of

government in the United States, and it is one of the most

responsive and transparent levels, led by officials who live and

work in the communities they serve; its many critical

responsibilities include providing public safety and justice,

holding elections and registering voters, maintaining citizens'

most important records, offering emergency management services,

providing health services, collecting property taxes, and building

and maintaining roads, bridges, and other infrastructure; TAC

facilitates greater efficiency in county government by supporting

the endeavors of county officials, and it offers its members

training and education opportunities and gathers information on

issues and best practices; and

WHEREAS, Each day, county officials work diligently to

improve the quality of life for local residents, and by enabling

county governments to join together to achieve better solutions,

the Texas Association of Counties helps to strengthen communities

all across the state; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby recognize April 29, 2025, as County Government

Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the members of

the Texas Association of Counties.
