R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Jenessa Davila of South San Antonio High School

earned a gold medal at the 2025 Region 20E High School Visual Art

Scholastic Event on February 22, qualifying her for the state

competition; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1994, VASE is a Texas Art Education

Association-sponsored contest that recognizes exemplary student

achievement in the visual arts; each participant creates a piece,

writes about their process in making it, and completes an interview

with a VASE juror, who evaluates their entry using a

standards-based rubric; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Davila's work,
Nitpicking
, is a self-portrait

using various mediums, textures, and 3D features, and it explores

the connection between the artist's identity and her curly hair;

after graduation, she hopes to continue her education at The

University of Texas at San Antonio, where she plans to major in

psychology and minor in fine arts; and

WHEREAS, This gifted young Texan has demonstrated

outstanding talent, creativity, and dedication to her craft, and

she may indeed take great pride in her exceptional showing in the

VASE competition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby congratulate Jenessa Davila on earning a gold

medal at the 2025 Region 20E High School Visual Art Scholastic Event

and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it

further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Ms. Davila as an expression of high regard by the Texas

House of Representatives.
