H.R. No. 846

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to

a close with the passing of Robert Maurice DeWalt of San Antonio on

August 28, 2024, at the age of 84; and

WHEREAS, The son of Robert and Josephine DeWalt, "Buddy"

DeWalt was born on September 22, 1939, and he grew up with the

companionship of a sister, Mary Francis; he attended St. Cecilia

School, and he graduated in 1957 from Central Catholic High School;

he went on to earn his undergraduate degree from St. Mary's

University in 1962, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi

fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Mr. DeWalt wed his high school sweetheart, the

former Carolyn Beth Strawn, on August 19, 1961, and the couple

shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 53 years until her passing

in 2015; they became the proud parents of three children, Adrianne,

Anneliese, and Eric, and with the passing years, their treasured

family grew to include five grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Mr. DeWalt answered

his nation's call to duty as a captain in the U.S. Army and was

deployed to Frankfurt, Germany; after returning home, his lengthy

career in sales included positions with Maldonado Jewelry,

Sylvania, Polaroid, and Amols' Novelties; he later transitioned to

working as a Yellow Pages ad salesperson for Southwestern Bell, and

he ultimately retired from the company's cell phone division; in

addition, he and Mrs. DeWalt operated Candy Cane Children's

Centers; and

WHEREAS, Mr. DeWalt was extensively involved in masonic

activities and held the title of past master for both Alamo Lodge

No. 44 and Albert Pike Lodge No. 1169; in addition, he was a noble

of the Alzafar Shrine, and he delighted numerous people with his

performances as Budro the Clown in the organization's Nemnuf clown

unit; in 2019, he proudly served as chaplain and poten-pop during

his son Eric's tenure as potentate of the shrine; and

WHEREAS, Although Buddy DeWalt is deeply missed, memories of

his humor, his warmth, and his generosity remain to comfort and

inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Maurice DeWalt

and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his

children, Dr. Adrianne DeWalt Vaughn and her husband, Michael,

Anneliese Marie DeWalt, and Eric Allen DeWalt and his wife,

Suzanne; to his grandchildren, Moxine, Josephine, Lillian, and

Samuel DeWalt and Ryan Vaughn; and to his other relatives and

friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Buddy

DeWalt.
