H.R. No. 933

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the

passing of Jennifer Young McNeil of Yorktown, Virginia, on

February 20, 2024, at the age of 65; and

WHEREAS, The daughter of Calvin and Ella Young, the former

Jen Young was born on June 18, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and

she grew up with the companionship of three brothers, Calvin,

Randy, and Drew; she graduated from Alief Hastings High School in

1976, and in 1980, she became one of the first women to receive a

computer science degree from The University of Texas at Austin; she

went on to work in software development and later in software

project management; and

WHEREAS, In the course of a successful career, Mrs. McNeil

was employed with Texas Instruments, Electronic Data Systems, CSC,

C2 Technologies, and PulseLearning; she led the development of

complex software programs for commercial and defense customers and

oversaw the implementation of numerous training programs; among her

honors, she earned a national award for helping develop software

used to train soldiers in firing missiles; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. McNeil enjoyed the love and support of her

husband, Angus, with whom she shared a rewarding marriage of 17

years; she took great pride in her daughters, Hope and Shannon, and

her stepsons, Will and Craig, and she was further blessed with four

grandchildren; in her leisure time, she found pleasure in

traveling, both domestically and internationally, and in reading

and gardening; sustained by her strong faith, she was a valued

member of Northside Christian Church, where she was a community

group leader and involved in a number of clubs; and

WHEREAS, Admired for her kind and caring nature and her

joyous zest for life, Jen McNeil brightened the world for all who

knew her, and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jennifer Young

McNeil and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to

her husband, Angus McNeil; to her daughters, Hope Mills and her

husband, Josh, and Shannon Kovalevsky and her husband, Adam; to her

stepsons, Will McNeil and his wife, Morgan, and Craig McNeil and his

wife, Cinthia; to her grandchildren, Sofia Kovalevsky and Peter,

Sarah, and Cassie McNeil; and to her other relatives and friends;

and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jennifer

Young McNeil.
